This session focuses on key strategies for improving
patient flow and emphasizes moving from "ideas" to
"execution" by prioritizing strategies based on
individual hospital's current delays. The collaborative
work between IHI and Kaiser Permanente to improve
patient flow in eleven Kaiser hospitals will be
described, as well as the plan for spreading this work
throughout Kaiser Southern California. Lessons learned
about improving patient flow in this complex health
system will also be shared.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Describe how a Hospital Flow Diagnostic tool can be applied to identify current delays in the system and prioritize strategies for improvement.
- Explain how Kaiser Permanente planned, tested, and implemented changes to improve flow through their system.
- Apply lessons learned to improve patient flow within your organization.
