Proper use of modern tools of epidemiology and measurement can help to guide the redesign of hospitals for safer, more effective, and more patient-centered care. Using examples from Dartmouth's Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences and elsewhere, this session will explore examples of the use of quantitative methods to guide the design of care processes and systems.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Describe how clinical and research databases can be used as guides for healthcare system redesign and improvement.
- Show specific examples of care redesign with the objective of improved safety and reliability.
- Suggest how hospitals can participate effectively in data systems for the improvement of health care.
