Lee B. Sacks, MD, Executive Vice President-Chief Medical Officer, Advocate Health Care
This session will discuss Pay for Performance (PFP), a concept that is gaining increased attention in health care as a way to improve quality and motivate providers. Dr. Deming, however, had a very simple and clear message about PFP, “Don’t do it. It’s ruinous! ”In this session, PFP assumptions and concepts will be explored and a case study describing how PFP has been implemented in a large PHO will be discussed. Participants will also have an opportunity to debate the pros and cons of implementing PFP.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Describe the three worlds of PFP.
- Explain Dr. Deming’s perspectives on PFP.
- Apply a framework for evaluating the impacts of PFP.
