Douglas K. Eby, MD, MPH, Vice President of Medical Services, SCF/Alaska Native Medical Center
Charles L. Clement, Vice President/Chief Information Officer, Southcentral Foundation
This session will demonstrate Southcentral Foundation’s successful system redesign and how they have figured out how to change the system from its most foundational underpinnings to its superficial details. The data to prove that large leaps of change and improvements (in utilization, process measures, cost, and satisfaction) are possible to achieve will also be discussed.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Explain how values shape current health care and how changing the core values can transform health care systems.
- Describe current system paradigms and why frustration and lack of performance remain the current experience in health care in the US.
- Reduce "change fatigue" caused by Lean, Six-Sigma, Tracer methodology, patient safety, Baldrige, TQM, CQI, PDSA, (etc.), by getting aligned traction for using these valuable projectsandtools within a different conceptual framework, a different paradigm.
- Explain why the Southcentral Foundation system at the Alaska Native Medical Center can demonstrate such profound change and dramatic improvements in utilization, process measures, cost, and satisfaction.
