Kenneth J. White, Board Development Specialist, YMCA University,YMCA of the USA
Every board member goes through three distinct Stages of Development and knowing what stage a board member is in can help the board development committee move the board member to a higher level of functioning. This workshop will focus on how the board holds “all the keys” to getting the board member around turn one, two, three, and four and heading for the finish line. Also time will be spent on the factors leading to success in recruitment of board members as well as the cultivations. Hold onto the steering wheel – this car is a fast one!
Participants will:
- review how board members develop through specific stages
- learn how the YMCA holds all the keys for the development of board members
- learn how the Board Development Committee can use the Stages of Development as an assessment of the board, so that it can provide appropriate training for the level of board functioning.
- Review the critical nature and best practices of a year long board recruitment program
- Understand how cultivation of board prospects can only be done if there is a year round recruitment process and understand how thecultivation process is the first step in the orientation process.
