Architects are taking the lead as universities increasingly help their larger communities achieve smart growth, offer renewed economic opportunity, and create significant new urban development. We’ll use the University of Alabama, Ohio State University, University of Cincinnati, and University of California-Berkeley as case studies.
Learning objectives:
- Examine how architects can help lead the increasingly significant trend toward universities and similar institutions as sponsors of major city and community-building initiatives
- Survey the contributions of universities and similar institutions achieving smart growth
- Respond to the planning and design challenges created when universities and similar institutions begin to develop off campus.
