SA22 The Power of Color in Light

Dawn Hollingsworth, Visual Terrain, Van Nuys, Calif.
Brad G. Hutchinson, Organic Lighting Systems, Los Angeles

Color and light are powerful tools used to transform architecture into dynamic environments, and the combination of these elements create exciting visual impressions that define the observer/user’s experience. New lighting technologies allow even greater freedom of expression in determining a color strategy. Using case studies, we’ll explore the use of color and light in a variety of architectural environments and their impact.

Learning objectives:

  • Use color in lighting to make bold architectural statements that do not overpower the design program
  • Review the advantages and limitations of two-color mixing systems and various technologies available in the marketplace
  • Discuss practical solutions, integration implications, long-term maintenance, and methodology for determining a technology fit with the owner and design review entities.
