The 2004-2005 restoration and conservation of architectural decoration and John La Farge murals in Trinity Church’s dominant central tower required the same level of collaboration between architect and trades people as in 1872 when H.H. Richardson designed the church. Using this case study, we’ll examine the collaborative approach originally used to execute the work and to accomplish the profound task of restoring these masterpieces.
Learning objectives:
- Review the history of the design and construction of Trinity Church
- Specify how architects, conservators, and trades people team to accomplish contemporary treatment of historical decoration
- Qualify the details of the recent decorative paint restoration and mural conservation project.
