The burgeoning green building movement is testament to the design industry’s broad interest in sustainable methods and materials. However, the focus on discrete buildings largely neglects neighborhood and regional issues. Using the ecological planning approach of Patrick Geddes and the park and open space plans of Frederick Law Olmstead as reference points, discuss the challenge of developing and implementing a green urban model.
Learning objectives:
- Identify green Urbanism practice and philosophy, demonstrating case studies in sustainable urban systems
- Analyze various urban types for development of useful strategies to promote sustainability
- Demonstrate specific examples of urban design and architectural design and planning policy that exemplify sustainable solutions.
