More and more communities, clients, project users, and the public are demanding architects’ actions and products be socially responsible. Practitioners are increasingly concerned with responding to this need and producing relevant and meaningful architecture. Discuss ethics and their application to contemporary practice methods and every day design applications and challenges in the pursuit of serving the public good.
Learning objectives:
- Review the fundamentals of ethics and their specific relationship to architecture-a foundation for future study of ethical principles
- Discuss the wide range of decisions that are a part of both traditional and nontraditional practice, with particular emphasis on the ethical framework that should be used in making socially responsible decisions
- Apply ethical principles in a holistic approach to problem resolution and discuss the benefits of collective problem resolution and discussion when dealing with ethical dilemmas.
