FR24 Sharpening Your Presentation Skills

David Greusel, AIA, HOK Sport + Venue + Event, Kansas City, Mo.

Architects place a high degree of importance on oral presentations, yet few have ever received any formal training on how to do so effectively. Overcome the fear of public speaking by using behavior models and including extensive interaction with the audience. The discussion may move too quickly for some, but you won’t be bored.

Learning objectives:

  • Compare how oral presentations differ fundamentally from written or graphic communication, and how writing or graphic skills do not necessarily translate to oral presentations
  • Develop a structure for creating and performing oral presentations shown to be successful in a variety of client and public settings
  • Identify several of the pitfalls unique to design professionals in presentation contexts, and how to avoid them while making compelling presentations.
