Despite the desirability of community facilities as anchor tenants in mixed-use projects, many designers and developers find it difficult to attract and work with suitable community organization partners. Explore successful partnership strategies for locating child care, job training, cultural, community clinic, and educational facilities in mixed-use projects. Review design techniques and methods for integrating community space into projects.
Learning objectives:
- Analyze the unique physical and spatial needs of education, job training, community clinic, cultural, and child care facilities, and design an integrated solution to accommodate them in mixed-use projects
- Identify, explain, and avoid common potential obstacles to partnerships between developers, designers, and community organizations
- Discuss design approaches for community facilities, and compile resources for further exploration on integrating community facilities into neighborhood developments.
