TH69 Creating Multi-cultural and Diverse Architecture

Paul Walker Scott, Morgan State University, Institute of Architecture and Planning, Baltimore
Carla Corroto, PhD, Assoc. AIA, Madison

Using the tools central to diversity counselors, examine how race, ethnicity, gender, social class, and sexual difference are factors in our firms. Explore the culturally induced personal barriers that make working across lines of difference challenging, and identify ideas about intervention that will allow architecture firms, and the people who work within them, to more effectively create environments welcoming to all people.

Learning objectives:

  • Analyze the office environment to determine if it is welcoming to people from diverse backgrounds
  • Identify policies and strengths for building a diverse workforce
  • Discuss cultural diversity and how it applies to architecture firms.
