Getting the patient voice and perspective is an invaluable component of care redesign. But how do we
achieve that in real life? How do we move beyond the one‐time focus group and make the longer‐term
commitment to integrate patients with the clinic team? This panel discussion will provide a "behind the
scenes" view of two Kaiser Permanente primary care clinic teams as they discuss ongoing efforts to
engage patients in care improvement efforts. Learn the basics of engaging and empowering patients
through Patient Councils and including patients on internal project teams.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Describe the importance and benefits of engaging patients in care redesign on improvement efforts
and the culture of a clinic.
- Recognize the challenges that can arise and develop strategies for creating strong working
relationships between patients and a clinic team.
- Assess how your practice can prepare and take steps to engage patients.
