This session examines how seemingly simple strategies can transform an office practice. The overarching
goal of practice redesign is to create a well‐organized office system that fosters sound medical decision
making, minimizes error, and creates an atmosphere that patients, staff and physicians can enjoy. Twelve
relatively simple strategies that together form a powerful force for change will be described. These
strategies can breathe life into the principles of the Patient‐Centered Medical Home.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Identify sources of complexity in your ambulatory practice.
- Adopt simple strategies for practice redesign such as pre‐appointment preparation, empowered
nursing, prescription management, streamlined post‐appointment management, and rapid access
scheduling.
- Develop a systems approach to foster sound decision making, minimize error, and create an
environment that patients, staff, and physicians enjoy.
- Develop strategies for implementation of the Patient‐Centered Medical Home.
