A2/B2: See One, Do One, Teach One: The Value of Shared Medical Visits in a Family Medicine Residency Program

Learn how one family medicine residency program implemented the use of shared medical visits (SMVs) into the curriculum for the care of diabetic patients, providing an opportunity to evaluate residents in the six competencies in a non‐intrusive manner both for patients and observers. This session describes why SMVs are a valuable tool in providing patient care, resident education, mentoring, and evaluation.
After this presentation you will be able to:

  1. Describe how shared medical visits may be used for patient care in a family medicine residency program.
  2. Explain how SMVs are used as an educational tool for resident instruction.
  3. Discuss how SMVs help meet ACGME requirements for evaluating residents.
