A growing number of university students and CE
programs are moving across national borders. Joint
degree programs, study abroad, distance education,
and professional exchanges are all contributing to
the internationalization of lifelong learning. Still,
there is no common definition of quality when it
comes to higher education, and no accepted international
metric for measuring quality. A few U.S.
professional accrediting organizations now conduct
accreditation visits internationally using the same
criteria and policies as for domestic visits. Still, each
country context is unique. Therefore, any university
CE unit seeking to expand capacity through crossborder
education needs to ensure that meaningful
quality assurance practices are in place. In this
session, an international panel from Canada, Wales,
Australia and the United States will discuss the
organizational challenges for universities associated
with cross-border lifelong learning, new issues for
policymakers, and quality assurance practices. |
