AARON CAROLIPIO, Troy University
The use of biometrics to authenticate students in distance education
environments is relatively new, but already there is growing
discussion among administrators and faculty about their use. Biometric
systems can scan anatomy to confirm a student’s identity
against stored data, and videotape students at their work stations
to alert faculty to unusual activity during an exam. Is this a “brave
new world” or is individual privacy under attack? This session will
discuss biometric systems and other approaches that authenticate
students. It also will explore some of the issues before university
leaders who are contemplating the employment of such systems. |
