The focus of the Hospital at Night (H@N) program, developed by the UK National Health Service, is to deliver safe and reliable care during the night, the hospital’s most vulnerable time of day for clinical service. The mandated restriction of working hours for junior doctors (residents), particularly for out-of-hours coverage, is necessitating innovative approaches to clinical handoffs, training, and the timing of procedures done during the day that have significant sequels at night. This session describes the H@N project and its ramifications for clinical handoffs, training, and risk reduction.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Discuss the interrelationship of the H@N project and clinical handoffs, competencies, and teamwork.
- Explore the impact of the timing of procedures during the day that have significant sequels at night.
