Pay for performance (P4P) has been a big part of the way in which for-profit organizations have rewarded employees and leaders for decades. In health care, however, the concept receives mixed reactions. This session will explore and debate the different ways health care leaders are thinking about the ramifications of P4P. Recent case studies based on interviews with health care providers will be shared with participants, who will also provide their own insights and experiences with P4P.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation.
- Summarize Dr. Deming’s perspectives on P4P.
- Identify the missing pieces in the P4P debate.
- Be better prepared to lead a dialogue on P4P within your organization.
