D4/E4 Surviving Sepsis: Interim Process Improvement Data from 6,700 Patients

Initial review of the 6,700 charts in the international Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC) database suggests that two areas are most challenging for hospitals around the world to master: central access and achieving central venous oxygen saturation and pressure goals. The data also suggest that a large reduction in mortality could be realized through reliable compliance with antibiotic administration at high levels. This session will focus on these areas of intervention and offer participants a focused approach to improving compliance with the most difficult to master sepsis bundle elements.

After this presentation you will be able to:

  • Identify both areas of progress and the unmet challenges from institutions worldwide participating in the SSC.
  • Recognize where the logjam is occurring in enacting sepsis-related process improvement at your institution.
  • Develop new tests of change to enable rapid improvement with respect to the early diagnosis of sepsis, timely administration of antibiotics, and monitoring of central venous oxygen saturation and pressure measurement.
