Hand hygiene reduces morbidity and mortality of patients. This session will describe how unsatisfactory hand hygiene compliance at a 10-facility hospital system led to the development and implementation of a program to address these deficiencies. Knowledge gained from this hand hygiene project will be shared, including the need for a comprehensive systems approach, dedicated financial and other resources to the project, commitment from senior leadership, and the importance of holding individuals accountable for compliance.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Articulate the need to engage senior administrative and physician leadership to foster change in clinical practices.
- Apply lessons learned in hand hygiene data collection methodologies.
- Recognize that a comprehensive solution to a project can include marketing, education, and accountability to ensure program success.
