C24 Patients Know Best: Partnering with Patients in Transformational Service Redesign

True partnerships and empowerment of service users and patients are often difficult to achieve. This session explores three different approaches to involve patients in transformational servicere design—patients as service evaluators, teachers, and leaders. The practical application of user involvement strategies will be explored, as well as the challenges these approaches present to healthcare providers. The unique outcomes that can be achieved by moving beyond pure consultation to meaningful participation and partnership will be discussed.

After this presentation you will be able to:

  • Describe a range of approaches to involve patients and service users in transformational service redesign.
  • Identify why, how, and when to involve patients in service transformation.
  • Apply this learning to a service improvement project in your facility.
