Rapid Response Teams hold substantial promise, but also require substantial resources. A different approach relies on a patient’s existing care team as the Rapid Response Team—the primary physician responder, for example, might even be an intern. One academic hospital implemented this model and witnessed a resulting 40% drop in unexpected mortality. This session reviews the analytic principles used to design this intervention, shares outcome data, and explores lessons from this unique model.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Identify single-point failure modes in your hospital’s current systems of care for acutely decompensating hospital inpatients.
- Describe a clinically resource-neutral approach that detects and responds to acutely decompensating hospital inpatients while utilizing providers already assigned to care for those patients.
