E1 Execution of Strategic Improvement Initiatives to Produce System-Level Results

Quality and safety occupy a prominent placein the strategic plans of many health care organizations. A common organizational response to this emphasis on quality and safety is a long list of worthwhile projects and measures that are not well coordinated. This session introduces a model for execution of strategic improvement initiatives to obtain results at the system level. Insights from the Bellin Health System’s multi-year development of infrastructure to support effective execution will be discussed.

After this presentation you will be able to:

  • Describe a framework for executing strategic improvement efforts.
  • Take home practical advice for developing an infrastructure to support system-level improvements.

Thomas W. Nolan, PhD, Statistician, Associates in Process Improvement (API), Senior Fellow, IHI; Peter J. Knox, Executive Vice President, Bellin Health
