Y Arts: The Arts for Child Care, Afterschool, Camp, Youth and Teens

Kat Kane, Arts Studio Director, YMCA of Greater Syracuse/East Area Family YMCA

Give your child care and teen programming a new dimension by adding the Arts, or enhance your existing arts activities for youth. This basic course, for both new and experienced arts-friendly staff includes preschool, after school, camp and other proven lesson plans and sample projects. A hands-on workshop, participants will have the opportunity to experiment with various art media, while researching and developing a Y Arts plan for their YMCA that meets their program, membership and other operational needs, with links to Y Arts Week, Diversity, YMCA Activate America and other critical initiatives. How do you work successfully within space and budget limits? Learn how implementing the Arts strengthens the mission and values of the YMCA, builds assets in youth and teens, develops skills of critical thinking, self-confidence, and self-expression, and how you can adjust for different ages and developmental levels in your group. Special guests: Jason Shinder, National Director, YMCA Arts & Humanities, Andrea Sanz, Arts Director, YMCA of Orange County.
