Cicely Gay, Senior GoGirlGo! Program Officer and Teresha Freckleton-Petite, GoGirlGo! Atlanta Project Manager, Women’s Sports Foundation
Women’s Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo Project, launched in 2001, ties in perfectly with the YMCA’s Activate America initiative. Learn about some best practices for working with girls as well as gain insight on how to integrate the GoGirlGo curriculum into your existing programs or create a new physical activity program for girls. This initiative aims to get one million inactive girls to participate in regular physical activity and keep another one million currently active girls ages 8 -18 from dropping out of physical activity. This girl-centered curriculum tackles tough issues like peer pressure, bullying, self-esteem and nutrition. The goals of the GoGirlGo curriculum are to provide tools to implement the curriculum, develop methods for recruiting and retaining girls, and to get inactive girls physically active by enlisting staff to become vocal advocates for healthy lifestyles. |
