Understanding the genetic basis of schizophrenia may lead to earlier identification of the illness and improved treatment. This workshop will take a close look at recent advances in genetics, the prodromal phase of the disease, and efforts to identify the illness early and intervene before development of a psychotic episode. We will also look at the pharmacologic treatment of schizophrenia and metabolic side effects of that treatment, as well as efforts to understand and improve real-world functioning among people with schizophrenia.
