The fact that seclusion and restraints have an adverse effect is well established. This workshop will illustrate how many facilities, including forensic institutions, have dramatically decreased episodes of restraint and seclusion through dialogue, personal safety plans, comfort rooms, and de-escalation techniques. We will also review changes in the Center for Medicare Services regulations governing the use of seclusion and restraints.
