Overwhelmingly, the research literature clinicians use to make pharmacological treatment decisions report studies of the efficacy of the medications tested. However, no medications work if the person for whom they are prescribed doesn’t take them. Issues from the biological, personal, interpersonal, and broader systemic dimensions that have an impact on adherence will be explored. Clinicians, consumers, and family members bring their own perspectives to issues of adhering to meds. Together, we can share strategies, information, and impediments to improving adherence with psychiatric drugs.
