Pharmacists can play a critical role in improving health both for hospitalized people and those taking medications outside an institution. Pharmacists can provide information on benefits, dosing, side effects, side effect management, and drug interactions with prescription and non-prescription medication. In addition, pharmacists can provide information on lifestyle issues that can improve overall health (sleep habits, diet, exercise, sun exposure, and stress management). The presenters in this workshop, all members of the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (C.P.N.P.), have been leaders in NAMI’S collaboration with the C.P.N.P. and have helped develop the “Ask the Pharmacist” information on NAMI’s Web site and several of our medication fact sheets. The presenters will also explore ideas for consumer collaboration in managing medications.
