This special seminar will be based on specific case examples representative of NAMI families, and will address the planning set-ups and strategies that are appropriate for families living with mental illness.The presentation will start with a brief overview of government benefits, and what a trust is and how it works — including how to select and oversee trustees. We will also cover promoting independence through health care directives, powers of attorney, housing, employment, transportation, and finding and working with qualified care managers. Finally, we will explore how to balance parents’ long-term care needs with planning for their son or daughter.
