In 2002, York University signed the Talloires Declaration, an international sustainability action plan. Four case studies (computer science building, student residence, reengineered street, and building retrofit) showcase how sustainability fundamentally informs campus infrastructure. Case studies presented by an architect and client illustrate how a holistic approach to green planning and design can be transformative, cost-effective, and very popular with the university’s varied constituents.
Learning objectives:
- Compile strategies for instilling active and passive sustainable aspects into tightly budgeted education projects
- Analyze the true costs and benefits of committing to sustainable design on campus
- Discuss sustainable planning and design and its applicability across the full spectrum of facilities planning and operations
