Jurisdictions across the country are grappling with unprecedented demands for new K–12schools. This demand represents a momentous opportunity for architects to shape the built environment and to influence, for better or worse, the lives of K–12 students for generations to come. Panelists will describe new tools and training programs designed to help architects create K–12 schools that achieve the highest performance levels possible. The session will also provide an update on the status and structure of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Application Guide for Schools.
Learning objectives:
- Explain what high performance schools are and why they are vital to students and faculty and access a new educational tool for architects, the Online Training Program for High Performance School Design
- Determine specific strategies that can be used to create high performance schools and summarize the current status of the LEED Application Guide for Schools
- Access and use the Collaborative for High Performance Schools Best Practices Manual
