The design of environmentally friendly buildings with interiors illuminated by daylight can be straightforward and inexpensive. Two new tools are presented to achieve high quality daylighted spaces simply and affordably, without sacrificing aesthetic standards: highly accurate simulations are used to compare glare control techniques and a new category of glass translucents is introduced that integrates seamlessly with other elements of the building façade.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the benefits of quality daylighting to occupants’ health and welfare
- Describe the design and performance limitations of traditional daylighting methods
- Create effective daylighted spaces based on translucent glazings
