Nowhere is green education more powerful than in our K–12 schools. Nowhere is green more needed than in the schools where our children and educators spend the greatest part of their days. This program will use completed new green schools and green renovations of existing schools to illustrate a green planning and design process. Those who attend this program will leave with the tools they need to integrate green schools into their communities and build broad support for sustainable development.
Learning objectives:
- Convert school boards, educators, and communities into green advocates through continuous green education and promotion
- Make green part of the school’s DNA to significantly reduce the loss of green components to value engineering and create a learning laboratory for students, families, and educators
- Identify design partners—like utility companies or the U.S. Green Building Council—at the beginning of a project to keep the long-term focus on sustainable planning and design strategies
