As modernization rages through the developing world, the ancient built environment is rapidly being demolished. Fueled both by the civic world (Three Gorges Dam project destroyed1, 600 towns, cities, and villages) and natural disasters (Gujarat earthquake of 2001 condemned 400 royal Havelis to destruction), our world is being significantly altered. This lecture will explore how ancient materials from these areas are being redeployed to great effect by some of the top designers of our generation.
