Building codes miss many aspects of accessibility. They do not cover the nuances that can either substantially save or significantly cost your clients money. For instance, existing schools do not have to remove all barriers. Historic structures are not exempted from the Americans with Disabilities Act. “Comparable” doesn’t mean “better than.” This seminar will concentrate on the often misunderstood scoping and technical requirements and briefly address the applicability of other federal accessibility laws.
Learning objectives:
- Discuss why accessibility from the beginning creates a more usable product for all
- Discuss errors that are not necessarily code violations
- Identify errors that are red flags for complaints
