In her best selling Not So Big House series, architect Sarah Susanka showed us how to thoughtfully inhabit our houses by creating better, not bigger homes. Now, in The Not So Big Life, Susanka takes her “better, not bigger” philosophy a monumental step further—showing us how to thoughtfully inhabit our lives. Architects have an important role to play in this shift, as it is we who help shape the stage upon which our lives are engaged. But we must first embody the change we wish to see.
Learning objectives:
- Discuss ways to make life less frenetic and complicated through a series of questions that determine the apparent absoluteness of each circumstance
- Practice listening for what clients are really looking for and reevaluate programmatic needs based on that information
- Employ tools to start living a more fulfilling life without having to change anything other than perspective
