FR38 Green Building Rating Systems: Bridging the Gap Between Building Design and Performance

To strengthen the link between sustainable design and operational performance, the Green Building Initiative (GBI) has launched an existing buildings module to complement its environmental assessment and rating system for new construction. This presentation will introduce the new module and feature the results of two complementary initiatives: a project under way to integrate lifecycle assessment data and the GBI’s pioneering efforts to have its assessment method recognized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
    Learning objectives:

  • Identify how the modules for new construction and existing buildings provide an assessment continuum, ensuring that high performance targets are achieved and maintained over a building’s life
  • Use lifecycle assessment for major building systems and materials as part of the green design process
  • Identify changes made to the GBI’s environmental assessment and rating system through the ANSI process
