FR30 New York New Visions: Success or Failure?

Many consider New York New Visions to be a model for how design and planning professionals should respond to a disaster. This precedent-setting collaborative effort helped to shape the plans for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site and Lower Manhattan. The effort has not produced all desired results, however, given the current disarray of the redevelopment process and the design compromises that have been made.
    Learning objectives:

  • Analyze the successes and failures of the New York New Visions collaborative effort for the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site and Lower Manhattan
  • Discuss how design professionals can influence public policy related to urban design
  • Discuss how the design community can work within a highly politicized process most effectively
