Green buildings are sustainable and energy efficient, cost less to operate, and use less fossil fuel-based resources. Buildings labeled and designed to earn Energy Star designation address these issues by providing a method to rate energy use during the design process and for the life of the building. This session focuses on methods and metrics for setting energy targets, evaluating energy during the design and building operations, and rating energy performance.
Learning objectives:
- Establish targets that account for integrated building systems and all energy uses associated with building design
- Rate estimated energy design and efficiency strategies to see if they meet the intended target
- Explain how to follow through from design targets to measured energy performance
