With the rapidly expanding interest in green buildings and the AIA's stated goals for dramatic energy use reduction, many projects begin with ambitious goals for high performance or LEED certification but are unable to achieve them. This session, led by two experienced green architects, will present concrete steps architects and engineers can take to modify their design process toward a more collaborative, integrated approach that can break through perceived cost barriers to green design.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the issues to be addressed in the early design phases to encourage effective collaboration
- Differentiate integrated design techniques from conventional design processes to increase building performance at lower initial cost
- Organize the structure for whole system integrated design, including how to organize goal-setting workshops, design charrettes, and iterative design sessions
