Sharon Daloz Parks, a nationally known author in the areas of ethics and leadership will explore leadership development in the contemporary higher education context. Parks draws a sharp distinction between authority and leadership. While the use of authority is important, Parks views it as a limited resource. She will discuss why effective leadership today involves listening, questioning, and probing. Parks is Associate Director of the Whidbey Institute in Clinton, Washington, and also on the faculty of Seattle University’s Executive Leadership Program. Prior to joining the Whidbey Institute, parks served for 16 years in faculty and research positions in Harvard University’s Schools of Divinity, Business and Government. Among her books are: Can Leadership Be Taught? A Bold Approach; and Can Ethics Be Taught? Perspectives, Approaches, and Challenges at Harvard Business School. Parks holds a doctorate from Harvard University. |
