From the Olympics to the U.S. Open, Wimbledon to the World Series, the Indy 500 to 30 straight Super Bowls, Scott Murray has covered them all. For close to a quarter of a century he was the award-winning Sports Director and Anchor at NBC, Dallas/Ft. Worth. Prior to that, Scott was based in Washington, D.C. with NBC television. During his three decades of television sports, Scott was named Sportscaster of the Year 17 times by various news/media organizations such as the Associated Press, United Press International, Dallas Press Club, NATAS, among others. He won back-to-back Emmy Awards for Best Sportscaster in 2000 and 2001 and was the recipient of the prestigious Silver Circle Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in 2002.
Although Scott retired from television news in 2003, he has remained very active in the media world as a sought-after motivational speaker, published author (Whatever It Takes), monthly magazine columnist, radio talk show host, television host and commercial spokesperson, and as Chairman/CEO of his own communications company, Murray Media. Murray Media is a full service television production company that deals with the creation, production, and distribution of television programs, as well as videos, DVD’s, and audio/visual production presentations at corporate, community, and charitable non-profit events. Scott serves on the Board of Directors of the Lone Star Film Festival and has been a longtime member of the Sigma Delta Chi Journalism Fraternity and AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. He also serves in an advisory capacity as the Sr. Vice President of Public Affairs for PlainsCapital, a Texas-based bank and financial institution.
Scott actively serves on the board of directors or executive committee of several sports organizations. He is a charter member of the SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors and the Doak Walker National Running Back Award. Scott is the Chairman of the Selection Committee of the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, chairman of the O’Brien Legends Award and Founder’s Award Committees and a member of the O’Brien Executive Committee. He is also on the Executive Committee of the Fort Worth Bowl and the Dallas All-Sports Association Board of Directors. In addition, Scott is a charter member of the Texas Motor Speedway’s Children’s Charity Board of Trustees. He was inducted in 1992 as an honorary member of the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame.
Scott stays very active in the community as a volunteer, serving on the board or advisory board of a number of civic, charitable and non-profit organizations, including his own Scott Murray Foundation: Lifting Spirits...Building Dreams. He was inducted into the Philanthropy World Hall of Fame in 1996; inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa Fraternity (The National Leadership Honor Society) in 1991; and, installed as an honorary member of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers in 1995. Scott’s commitment to community has resulted in him being honored on many occasions with such awards as Man of the Year, Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Humanitarian of the Year, Director’s Award from the FBI and the US Department of Justice, Governor’s Award, George Washington Medal of Honor Freedom Award,
United Way Hercules Award, Tom Landry Award of Excellence, Boy Scouts of America God and Service Award, National Youth Leadership Council Gift of Leadership Award, and, the honor he cherishes most, Father of the Year Award.
