From its origin as a tool for collecting clinical data on a population, the Indian Health Service (IHS) health information technology (HIT) system has evolved over the past 25 years into an award-winning HIT system that addresses population, community, and personal health needs of American Indians and Alaska Natives. The use of the HIT solution in guiding improvement efforts at the local level and throughout the IHS will also be described.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Identify the critical elements of a health information system designed to meet population, community, and personal health needs.
- Describe how a health information system designed for clinical and public health uses can be used to drive improvement within a health system.
- Discuss the use of a robust HIT solution to support system transformation through the improvement of care across multiple conditions.
