Presenter: Beth Averbeck, MD, Associate Medical
Director for Care Improvement, HealthPartners
Medical Group
HealthPartners Medical Group has evolved over the last seven years from salary-based compensation to performance based incorporating quality, access, and patient satisfaction incentives into physician compensation. The medical group used evidence based medicine, patient survey data, assessed market forces, and engaged physicians in its commitment to align incentives with the group's care improvement priorities. This session will review the structure and design to implement, sustain, and improve a compensation plan that incorporates performance metrics. It will discuss identifying the members of the team, prioritizing the metrics to use, and involving physicians in the decisions and distribution methods.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Implement quality and patient satisfaction as a performance-based component to physician compensation.
- Involve physicians in choosing quality measures for inclusion and distribution methods.
- Define the benefits and risks of rewarding individual physicians versus physician group practices.
