This session will describe the microsystem approach to systems thinking being implemented in the Section of Plastic Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Tools, methods, and concepts that present a systems view of redesigning specialty care and improve outcomes for patients, families, and staff will be discussed.
After this presentation you will be able to:
- Define the clinical microsystem and the “big picture” of plastic surgery in a large medical center.
- Describe the link between outpatient appointments and procedures with inpatient OR procedures.
- List three activities to identify waste, rework, and delays in care and process.
- Design a clear action plan that adapts the concepts, skills, and tools to any specialty practice.
