Dr. Gilbert Sewall

      Dr. Gilbert Sewall has an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley and graduate degrees from Brown University and Columbia University. He is director of the American Textbook Council, an independent research organization based in New York City that reviews history textbooks and curricula. He is the author of Islam in the Classroom (2003). A former education editor at Newsweek Magazine, Sewall has been on the faculty at New York University and Boston University. Sewall is the author of Necessary Lessons: Decline and Renewal in American Schools and the co-author of After Hiroshima: The USA since 1945. His articles on education and other subjects have appeared in Fortune, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Society, and many other publications. Some interests outside the office include gardening and German wirehaired pointers. Dr. Sewell lives in New York.
